From Country Ranch Wedding Journalist Katie Bartlett :
It was the fairytale proposal as the clock struck midnight in New York City; horse and carriage through central park, fireworks and the words every girl wants to hear. So without question the wedding that would follow of country music singer, Shea Fisher and her now WNFR tie down roping husband, Tyson Durfey, would only be a magical affair.
Meeting at the Houston Rodeo in 2011 in the catering section, Tyson instantly knew Shea was the woman he wanted to be with. “I first saw her and thought to myself who is that; she pretty much just blew me away. Later that night I saw her in the competitor’s area and we chatted briefly, said a few words and that was it”, said Tyson. Luckily for him Shea sent him a Facebook message a week later telling him it was nice to meet him and fast forward three years the couple are now officially man and wife.
Planning a wedding is no easy feat; especially when you have family on both sides of the world and your both public figures in the world of rodeo & country music. “I knew I wanted a rustic wedding and the truth is I googled “rustic wedding venues in Texas” and that’s how I found Vista West Ranch. It was in the top 10 wedding venues in the US and we actually decided to get married there without even seeing the venue; we only saw photos and that was more then enough for me”, said Shea. With plans of the wedding in full swing no details were spared including the beautiful hand made lace and rhinestone invitations that were nothing short of special.
Wanting to have a glamorous, elegant and country wedding it was only fitting to include boots and cowboy hats. “My brother, Daniel who is a Royal Marine Commando, flew in from Scotland and we even got him in a cowboy hat”, laughed Shea, “I think between the Corral Boots, cowboy hats and bridal dresses by Jasmine Bridal we achieved the wedding we had always dreamed of. It was a pretty magical day”.
One special touch to the wedding that Shea spent months planning was custom-made Corral boots for all their bridesmaids and groomsmen. “Corral Boots and I worked together to have boots made for the bridal party and Tyson and I. I’m in love with my boots. Both our boots had the wedding date on them, our initials and on the bottom of them it says ‘I’ on one and ‘DO’ on the other”. Not only were Tyson and Shea’s boots personalized to them but each of the bridal party’s boots had their initials on the pull tags.
When it comes to wedding’s it’s fair to say the bride’s gown is one of the most anticipate moments as she steps out and walks down the aisle but finding that perfect dress sometimes seems impossible; not for Shea. “I was going to get my dress custom made but went in to a store and saw this dress ‘Sloan’ by Maggie Sottero and thought this is exactly what I was going to create anyway. It fit perfectly, had a long train and I just knew that was the dress. I also wanted my hair and make up to be a little more natural then people expected. I feel like people may have expected me to have my hair down, full of body, curly and glamorous instead I wanted a nice side pony tail”.
Stepping out to walk down the aisle, Shea and her dad Eddie, talked to each other helping to keep calm and both Tyson and Shea teared up a little. “I kind of had my emotional moment upstairs before the wedding. I couldn’t even open the wedding gift from Tyson because I was getting so emotional I was going to ruin my make up; so I waited until after the wedding to open it”, laughed Shea.
One of the most special moments Shea has ever had, she describes her wedding as the most perfect day. “Tyson’s vows were incredible and they rhymed the whole way. It was great and really special”. Laughing she is supposed to be the songwriter, Shea was also blown away when Tyson got up to sing to her at the rehearsal dinner the night before. “He sung “Getting you home by Josh Turner” and it was too funny”.
With six people standing on each side of Tyson and Shea, it was definitely a multi-cultural wedding with the bridal party coming from countries all over the world. “I had three girls from Australia and three from America and Tyson had two Brazilian’s (who spoke no English), my brother who flew over from Scotland, his two brothers and a friend from Canada; it was very multi-cultural”, laughed Shea.
Keeping the wedding reception to 180 guests Tyson and Shea and their family and friends danced the night away and included both American and Australian traditions. “The venue was gorgeous inside this big barn where they had big curtains draped up and chandeliers. Petal Pushers did all our flowers and we gave them the freedom to create what they thought would work. On my bouquet I put a little locket with my sister’s photo to represent her throughout the wedding. It was pretty special”, smiled Shea.
A typical Australian tradition at the wedding was lots of speeches at the reception, while ‘his and her’ cakes were created in typical American style. “Tyson’s cake was incredible with how the designer made it with photos of him that were edible, buckles and the rope around the bottom, while mine was a little more girly and six tiers high. Classic cakes by Lori did an amazing job and they tasted great. My brother was absolutely hilarious when he got up to do his speech; it was fun to include both of our cultures traditions”.
Local company, Catering With A Twist, took care of all the meals while Shea’s guitarist Justin flew in to entertain guests. “I swear we probably danced none stopped all night long. Our first dance to Keith Urban More Than A Memory was really special”.
Another special touch they added to the reception was a photo booth for guests to take photos journaling the event. “It was absolutely hilarious going through the photo book after the wedding. Tyson and I laughed for hours”.
Deciding to wait until after the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to honeymoon, Tyson and Shea thought their time would be better spent with Tyson focusing on the WNFR and in the practice pen. “Tyson is currently sitting second in the world and went back to rodeos only a few days after the wedding and I was on set for a photo shoot a day later. So we thought it would be best to wait and then after Las Vegas we’ll head to Bora Bora then back home to Australia for Christmas”.
“It’s an accomplishment finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with”, said Tyson, “I said that in my vows how some people spend their life trying to find their soul mate and we’re lucky we found each other now”, added Shea. Both Tyson and Shea feel as a team nothing is impossible as they support each other’s careers and encourage each other as they chase their dreams.
“Without the help of my mother and her best friend, Lynda the week before the wedding I definitely don’t think I could have kept it together as much as I did. There is a lot that goes into planning a wedding”.
As they start their journey together as man and wife, Tyson will continue to focus on his dream of a Gold Buckle and Shea her music and other deals. “I plan on hitting Nashville pretty hard next year. We’ve been working a lot on new music and I believe I’ve got the right song and now it just a matter of the right time. Tyson and I don’t really want to go two weeks without seeing each other and plan on flying to see each other but we have the rest of our lives together”.
